I am proud to say that Bethel Community Church is a big family of Christ, to which I was accepted with open arms about six years ago.
When I first arrived in Newport, I was a stranger and knew no one in the entire city. In fact, I hadn’t met anyone and missed even simple conversation (even a “hello” would have been nice!).
After a few days, I randomly met Mr. J, a member of Bethel. He gave me a warm smile and spoke to me. It was as though he had read my mind and understood the loneliness I was feeling.
That short conversation was followed by me visiting Bethel for the first time. It didn’t take me very long to realise that it’s a big family whose members are brought together by love of God. Over time, I have come to realise that in this church, everyone is welcome and included in the family with integrity, regardless of race, ethnicity, age or immigration status.
The various ministries run by the church to support asylum seekers and others in need means that the Bethel is unique, where the spiritual, emotional and physical needs are seen together.
It is inspiring to see that our church is taken as standard and good model for others including the local authority and charities when it comes to community projects.
I am proud and honoured to be part of the Bethel Community Church indeed!
